Trip summary

Day 1 - Arrival at Kigali in Rwanda

On arrival to Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by the A J Tours & Travel team and transferred to your hotel.

Overnight at Hotel Chez Lando or Milles Collines Hotel

Day 2 - Kigali - Transfer to Butare in Rwanda

After breakfast you will be picked up from the hotel in Kigali and transferred to Butare where we will take you to visit the famous national dance troupe The Intore Dancers. You will also visit the Ethnographic Museum, which is regarded as the best Museum in East Africa.

Overnight at Hotel Ibis.

Day 3 - Butare – Transfer to Bukavu DRC

After breakfast you will be picked up from your hotel in Butare and transferred to Bukavu via Nyungwe Forest, crossing the border at Ruzizi. You will take a picnic lunch on the way and will arrive at the hotel early evening, in time for dinner.

Day 4 - Eastern Lowland Gorilla Trek in Kahuzi Biega National Park

After breakfast your driver guide will transport you to the Kahuzi Biega National Park Headquarters where you will be met and briefed by your ranger guides about the

Mountain Gorillas and the trek. After spending an hour with the gorillas you will have lunch and transfer back to Bukavu for the night.

Day 5 - Bukavu – Transfer to Goma

After breakfast you will be picked up from the hotel in Bukavu and transferred to Goma via speedboat on lake Kivu. The boat trip takes 4 hours across the beautiful Lake Kivu, surrounded by magnificent mountains and with deep emerald green waters covering a surface area of 2,700 km2. It is the sixth largest Lake in Africa and part of the Great Rift Valley.

Overnight at Ihusi Hotel

Day 6 - Hike to the crater of Nyirangongo Volcano

After breakfast you will picked up from your hotel in Goma and transferred to Kibati in the Virunga National Park. You will meet your ranger guides for your briefing on the hike ahead and then commence the 6-7hour trek to the summit. You will then be able to enjoy an overnight stay in a cabin at the summit.

All food and equipment will be carried by a team of porters.

Day 7 - Descent back down from Crater, transfer to Goma

After early morning breakfast commence the 4-hour descent where you will be welcomed back by our team once more and transferred to the hotel for your overnight stay.

Overnight at Ihusi Hotel

Day 8 - Goma: Transfer to Kigali, Rwanda

After breakfast we pick you up from the hotel in Goma and transfer you safely back to Kigali with lunch en route in Ruhengeri at the Muhabura Hotel. Arrive in Kigali mid afternoon ready for your return flight home.
