FAQ's

Which is the best month for a safari?

Given the generally good climate in Uganda, Rwanda and the DRC, one can actually travel at any time. However, April and November are the peak months of the rainy season that may make Gorilla trekking a little difficult.

How long in advance do I need to secure my Gorilla permit?

Gorilla permits usually need to be booked and paid for at the same time; hence we strongly advise that clients book 4 - 6 months in advance, especially in the high season.

How long in advance do I have to book my safari?

This usually depends on when one is planning to do their tour, and also on the season - low or high. However, we advise that prior to your date/ time of travel, you book at least 6 months in advance. This will facilitate us to make the necessary arrangements for your tour.

Do you accept payments by credit card?

We unfortunately do not accept payments by credit card as we do not have the facilities. We only accept payments by Bank Transfer direct to our Bank account. You will find these details in your Booking form.

Would you assist me with my flight?

Yes, we can assist you to book your flights if you provide the following details:

Full names of participants (as indicated in your passport).

Exact dates of travel.

Point of origin (country of origin).

Otherwise, you may consult travel agencies in your country and book accordingly.

What is the security like in Uganda, Rwanda and the DRC?

The security in the 3 countries in the past was considerably weak. However, the recent years have brought with them an improvement. As a matter of fact, the 3 countries are now safe to travel to. AJ tours always monitors the routings of our safaris to ensure that the security of our clients and staff, as we would not like to put anyone at risk.

If I were a single participant, would I be able to join a group?

Yes, you could join a group as long as a particular safari is not full. Otherwise, you may choose to travel alone. Please note that we require a minimum of 2 participants per trip. Otherwise as a single traveler, you will be required to pay double the tour price (excluding Gorilla permits).

What is included and Excluded in your packages?

Our packages:

Full services of a driver guide, all park entrance fees, airport transfers, all meals, accommodation, and all activities as per program, as well as mineral water.

Excluded;

Visa fees, Airline ticket, beverages, tips and personal expenses.

What primary items should one bring for the tour?

We recommend that you carry along outfits with adapted colors for wildlife observation, good walking shoes, raingear, a few long sleeved shirts, slippers, sweater for cool evenings, a hat, sunglasses and sun cream for sun protection. Do carry along video or photo camera, a 200mm or longer tele-lens is useful, reserve batteries, films (with a few high speed films 800/1600 ASA), binoculars and a torch.

How tiresome is it to trek the Gorillas?

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga national park is usually tiresome because of the steep terrain and thick forest. However, it is worth the experience! Trekking in Rwanda and the DRC is less tiresome.

What is the highest chance of seeing the Gorillas?

Seeing the Gorillas is usually guaranteed though sometimes in Uganda (Bwindi), the Gorillas migrate to the neighboring Virunga Volcanoes National Park. In Rwanda and the DRC however, seeing the gorillas is a 99% chance.

What are your considerations regarding one's dietary needs?

We strongly advise that clients let us know I there are any specific dietary needs that we need to take note of such as vegetarians.

What is the age limit for Gorilla trekking?

The age limit is 15 years in all the 3 countries. Younger than that, they will be advised to take part in a separate activity.

How fit should one be for trekking?

You are advised to be fit enough, considering you do not have serious health conditions that are triggered by long walks are steep terrains. Also, please ensure that you do not catch contagious diseases such as flu that could be passed on to the animals. There are strong regulations for cases such as these.

Are there any specific vaccinations one should take?

Yes there are. Yellow fever is usually advised. Please check with your doctor. We also advise that you take precaution against malaria. Do seek appropriate advice from your doctor. Carry along your mosquito repellant as well.

In what currency do you accept payments?

We accept payments in GBP, Euros and US Dollars only.
