Murchison Falls + Western Uganda expedition -15 days

This is a lodging safari for individuals interested seeing and viewing the beauty of Murchison Falls National Park and Western Uganda. It involves a lot of activities included but not limited to Chimp trekking, Gorilla trekking, game viewing and lunch trips on Kazinga channel and River Nile. The areas to be visit include Kibale national Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, Lake Mburo National Park and Murchison Falls National Park.

This trip can be extended to Rwanda for another gorilla trekking in a different environment.

Ø This safari can be organized with a minimum of 2 participants and a maximum of 10 participants. This safari can also be organized for family groups.

Ø Visa for Uganda is $ 50 Dollars person.

Trip summary – 15 days:

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport.

Day 2: Kampala – Transfer to Murchison Falls NP

Day 3. Game drives- boat trip on River Nile

Day 5. Transfer to Kibale National park via Hoima.

Day 6: Chimp trekking – Transfer to Mweya (QENP)

Day 7: Game drives – Boat trip (QENP).

Day 10: Game Drives – Ishasha (QENP)

Day 11: Game Drive (Ishasha) – Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable NPk.

Day 12: Gorilla trekking – Bwindi Impenetrable NP.

Day 13: Bwindi – Transfer to Lake Mburo NP.

Day 14: Lake Mburo – transfer to Kampala.

Day 15: Kampala visit and Departure.

What is included on this trip?

Airport transfers, lodge accommodation, all meals, mineral water, the services of a Driver-Guide, all park and entry fees, all activities as per the itinerary: chimp trekking at Kibale, game drives at Mweya, boat trip on the Kazinga channel, visit of Kasenyi fishing village and salt works, nature walk in Kyambura in search of the chimps, game drives in Ishasha, gorilla trekking in Bwindi, game drives in Lake Mburo NP, game drives in MFNP, boat trip to the falls, bird watching in MFNP and Kampala visit.

What is excluded in this trip? Personal expenses, visas, flight charges, all drinks except Mineral Water and other personal expenditures like tips and donations.

Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport.

On arrival at Entebbe airport you will be received by AJ tours and travel team. Here you will be transferred to your hotel for an

overnight. If you arrive in the morning, you may choose an activity that you will do outside the safari plan. This will enable you to

keep busy that whole day before the safari departure the following day.

Some of the activities/day excursion that you can choose include; a visit to Ngamba Island (Chimp sanctuary), visit to the

Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, visit the Botanical Gardens, visit to Mabira Forest reserve (Nature walk and birding).

Accommodation: Hotel Africana or Sophie's Motel

Day 2: Kampala – Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park.

After breakfast you will depart to Murchison Falls National Park through Masindi town about 5-6 hours drive on road.

You will have a picnic lunch enroute. After lunch you will continue and explore the western escarpment of the Western part of the

Great Rift Valley and Lake Albert. You will have your dinner and the overnight at Red Chilli Camp or Parra safari Lodge.

Activities: Road drive while viewing of different places in the car.

Accommodation: Red Chilli or Parra Safari Lodge.

Day 3. Murchison Falls National Park.

After breakfast you will take a Ferry for the half day game drive around the Victoria Nile delta of the Park. This is where of the

most game gathers and where there are spectacular views across Lake Albert into Congo and northern Uganda.

After lunch you will depart for a 3 hour Boat launch trip up-stream towards the base of Murchison Falls. Hippos, huge Nile

Crocodiles and fantastically varied bird-life abound. Here Bird watchers will appreciate the rich bird life and the animal community.

Activities: Wildlife viewing and Bird watching.

Accommodation: Parra Safari Lodge or Red Chill Camp.

Day 4. Murchison Falls National Park.

Here after breakfast you will go back for the marathon second day of full game drives in the park. This time you will focus on various

animals of your choice especially the lions, elephants and giraffes. This is another experience that you will not forget so easily.

You will have lunch in the afternoon and there after driven to the top of the falls for a breathtaking sight of the raging Nile as it forces

its way through a rocky gap barely six meters wide. This is the point where the Nile River explodes through a narrow gorge and

cascades down to become a placid river. You will also have walk around the surrounding village and in the park. Return to the lodge

for dinner and overnight.

Activities: Wildlife viewing and Bird Watching.

Accommodation: Parra safari Lodge or Red Chilli.

Day 5. Murchison Falls National Park – Transfer to Kibale via Hoima and Masindi

After breakfast, we will drive to Kibale National Park via Hoima and Kyenjojo with a stop over at Fort Portal Town. You will have

picnic lunch on the way. After lunch we will proceed to Kibale Forest National Park. An overnight is foreseen at Kibale NP.

Accommodation: Kanyanchu Primates Lodge or Ndali Lodge.

Day 6: Kibale NP – Queen Elizabeth NP (Mweya).

After breakfast you will depart to the forest searching for Chimpanzees. Here your guides will brief you of all the activities to be

done in the forest. The forest is a paradise of many species of birds, chimps, Baboons and white colobus monkeys. After Chimp

trekking you return to the camp for lunch. After lunch you will be transferred to Queen Elizabeth National Park (Mweya).

Overnight is foreseen at Mweya safari lodge.

Activity: Chimp trekking, bird watching and other small primates, natures walk

Accommodation: Mweya safari Lodge.

Day 7: Mweya Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Early morning you will go for a morning game drive since it is the most favorable time for Game viewing. Among the many activities

includes visiting the Kob mating ground where a large number of the Kobs converge, visit of Kasenyi village and the schools.

In this area there are lions, Kobs, Elephants, Buffalos, warthogs, bushbuck and waterbuck. You will return to the hotel for Lunch.

After lunch you will go for a launch trip to Kazinga channel. The Kazinga Channel is a natural channel of 36 km long between

Lake George and Lake Edward. You will be able to see elephants, hippo, Nile crocodile and many water birds. The water birds

are plentiful along the channel: African skimmers, African fish eagles, cormorants, saddle-billed storks, pelicans, etc.

The Kazinga Channel divides Queen Elizabeth in a northern (Mweya) and southern part (Maramagambo, Kyambura, and Ishasha).

Landscapes will be different. The northern part is a euphorbia savannah while the southern sector is a typical acacia savannah.

Activities: Game viewing, boat trip and visit of school.

Accommodation: Mweya safari Lodge.

Day 8: Mweya Queen Elizabeth NP.

Queen Elizabeth NP is divided into section. This time you will visit the Northern section of the park. This will include a visit to

Katwe Salt walks, visit the crater lakes. After this exciting expedition you will proceed for a further short game drive and then return

to the hotel for Lunch.

After Lunch, you will be transferred to Maramagambo Forest. Here you will enjoy the forest guided nature walks and thereafter

transfer to the bat cave to observe the fruit bats and rock Python. On the way back you will visit the small lake, the blue lake and

the sometime get to see the giant forest warthog.

Activities: Game viewing, Katwe salt works and crater lakes and the bat cave.

Accommodation: Mweya safari Lodge.

Day 9: Kyambura – Transfer to Ishasha (QENP)

Wake up early in the morning and have breakfast. After breakfast you will be transferred to Kyambura. Here, you will explore

Kyambura gorge. You will be briefed and guided by the guides before proceeding to trek the chimps since they know more about

the sites. The nature walk takes a few hours and a picnic lunch will be served before heading to Ishasha. After lunch you will be

transferred to Ishasha.

Activities: Chimpanzee trekking, Guided nature walks & hikes, wildlife viewing.

Accommodation: Ishasha Wilderness camp or Ishasha Banda's.

Day 10: Ishasha Queen Elizabeth NP

After breakfast you will explore the southern part of Queen Elizabeth NP. This will expose you to a variety of wild animals. These

include: Elephants, herds of buffalo, Uganda Kob and Topi. Near to the swamps of the southern circuit you might see even the

leopard. We continue and drive to the northern circuit which is the area near the main road known for its tree climbing lions.

We look particularly at the many trees where lions like to stay. But we also visit the Uganda Kob mating ground which is their

preferred hunting area.

After an initial scouting expedition, we return to the hotel for lunch, we relax at the hotel. In the afternoon you will go for another

game drive and later return to the hotel for an overnight.

Activities: Game viewing.

Accommodation: Ishasha Wilderness camp or Ishasha Banda's.

Day 11: Ishasha – Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest NP

Before we depart for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest NP, we shall go for the last game drive in Ishasha. Here you might get a chance

to see animals that you missed during the previous game drives. You will return to the hotel for lunch and thereafter transfer to

Bwindi. The journey from Ishasha to Bwindi takes about 2 to 3 hours. Overnight will be foreseen at Bwindi – Buhoma.

Activities: Game viewing.

Accommodation: Buhoma Homestead or Buhoma Community Rest Camp.

Day 12: Gorilla Trekking - Bwindi Impenetrable Forest NP

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest NP is a natural rain forest that has beautiful scenery for trekkers. Here you will be required to report to

the Park headquarters for briefing for Gorilla trekking at 7h00 am. Gorilla trekking is un predictable, it can take from 2 to 8 hours

depending on the gorilla group you have been given. A good physical condition is recommended. For conservation purposes, time

spent with the gorillas is limited to one hour. A ranger will brief you on how to behave with the gorillas. You will go with a picnic

lunch when trekking the gorillas.

After Gorilla trekking, you will be entertained by the orphans from Buhoma Community. Here you can donate anything that you

have for the orphans since they are a poor community. If time allows you will be able to visit the local schools also.

Activities: Gorilla trekking.

Accommodation: Buhoma Homestead or Buhoma Community Rest Camp.

Day 13: Bwindi – Transfer to Lake Mburo NP

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Lake Mburo National Park in Mbarara. This journey takes about 4 hours. You will have

a picnic lunch on the way. In the afternoon you will relax at the hotel and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the national park. Overnight

will be foreseen at Lake Mburo NP.

Activities: Gorilla trekking.

Accommodation: Mihingo Lodge or UWA Tented Camp.

Day 14: Lake Mburo NP – Transfer to Kampala.

In the morning you have breakfast and the go for a morning game drive. Here you will be able to see Zebras, buffalos, elephants and

other wide varieties of wild animals. After lunch, you will proceed to Kampala. An overnight will be foreseen at your hotel.

Activities: Game viewing.

Accommodation: Hotel Africana or Sophie's Motel.

Day 15: Kampala visit and Departure.

For flight departing in the morning, you will be transferred to Entebbe Airport for departure. For those having evening flights, they

will do a Kampala city tour and departure.

Important Points to note:

Ø We always advise our clients to bring soft or leather bags for easy transfers.

Ø Minimum age for gorilla trekking is 15 years old.

Ø We advise you to carry enough money to meet your personal expenses while here on safari.

Ø Tips are always given as a way of appreciating the service provided to the tour leader.

Ø This safari can be extended to Rwanda for further gorilla trekking a different environment.

What to bring on safari?

Clothes that are friendly to wildlife observation, good walking shoes, a few long-sleeve shirts, slippers, sweater for cool evenings,

sun protection: hat, sunglasses, sun cream, video/photo camera i.e. longer telelens is very useful, reserve batteries, films, binoculars

and a torch for dark nights.
