Elizabeth National park 10 Days

This is a program/safari for individuals interested in discovering the Queen Elizabeth National park, Kibale National park, and Rwenzori mountains in Uganda. It can be organized both in camping and lodging accommodation to view well the beauty and nature of western Uganda. It involves many activities including chimp trekking, forest walks, hike the Rwenzori Mountains, game viewing and Boat trip in Kazinga channel.

 This safari can be organized with a minimum of 2 participants and a maximum of 10 participants.

 Visa for Uganda is at $ 50 delivered at Entebbe international Airport.

Trip summary:

Day 01: Arrival at Entebbe Airport.

Day 02: Kampala - Transfer to Kibale National Park

Day 03: Chimp Trekking – transfer to Rwenzori Mountains.

Day 04: Hike from Nyakalengija (1.646 m) - Up to Nyabitaba Hut (2.652 m)

Day 05: Nyabitaba walk back to the camp – Overnight Nyakalengija Campsite

Day 06: Nyakalegija - Transfer to Mweya – Visit the CTPH and Equator.

Day 07: Game viewing – Boat Trip on Kazinga Channel.

Day 08: Game drives – Maramagambo.

Day 09: Transfer to Kampala.

Day 10: Kampala visit and Departure.

What is included on this trip?

Airport transfers, camping or lodging accommodation, all meals, mineral water, the services of a Driver-Guide and the logistics team, all park and entry fees, all activities as per the itinerary: chimp trekking at Kibale, hiking Rwenzori mountain, game drives at Mweya, boat trip on the Kazinga channel, visit of Kasenyi fishing village, Maramagambo forest and Kampala visit.

What is excluded in this trip?

Personal expenses, visas, flight charges, all drinks except Mineral Water and other personal expenditures like tips and donations. Optional bird watching in Bwindi and Gorilla trekking permit,

What to bring on safari?

Clothes that are friendly to wildlife observation, good walking shoes, hiking sticks, a few long-sleeve shirts, slippers, a sweater for cool evenings, sun protection: hat, sunglasses, sun cream, video/photo camera i.e. longer telelens is very useful, reserve batteries, films, binoculars and a torch for dark nights.

Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1 Arrival at Entebbe Airport.

On arrival at Entebbe airport you will be received by AJ tours and travel team. Here you will be transferred to Nabinonya beach for an overnight or to your hotel. If you arrive in the morning, you may choose an activity/ day excursion that you will do outside the safari plan. This will enable you to keep busy that whole day before the safari departure on the following day.

Activities/ day excursion that you can choose include; a visit to Ngamba Island (Chimp sanctuary), visit the Botanical Gardens (bird watching), visit to Mabira Forest reserve (Nature walk and birding).

Camping accommodation : Nabinonya Campsite.

Lodge Accommodation : Sophie's Motel or Hotel Africana

Day 2: Kampala – Transfer to Kibale NP

After breakfast, we shall all travel to Kibale National park via Mubende with a stop over at Fort Portal town. You will have lunch in Fort Portal before proceeding to Kibale National Park. Overnight will be at Kibale Forest NP.

Activities: Road transfer accompanied by scenery viewing and people.

Camping accommodation : Kanyanchu campsite.

Lodge Accommodation : Kanyanchu Primates Lodge.

Day 3: Chimp trekking – Transfer to Rwenzori Mountains.

After breakfast you will depart to the forest searching for Chimpanzees. Here your guides will brief you of all the activities to be done in the forest. The forest is a paradise of many species of birds, chimps, Baboons and white Colobus monkeys. After Chimp trekking you return to the camp for lunch. After lunch you will be transferred to Mountain Rwenzori. Overnight is foreseen at Mount Rwenzori Nyakalengija Campsite.

Activity: Chimp trekking, bird watching and other small primates, natures walk

Day 4: Hike from Nyakalengija (1.646 m) - Up to Nyabitaba hut (2.652 m)

After breakfast you will have a short drive to offices of the Rwenzori Mountains NP and the Rwenzori Mountaineering Services (RMS) at Nyakalengija. Time in the morning will be to rent equipment and be availed with guides and porters. Your hiking trip begins from the park headquarters at 1,646 m, walking past typical "mud and wattle" Bakonzo homes and gradually moving upward through elephant grass and garden plots. It takes approximately forty minutes to reach the park boundary.

The trail then follows the Mubuku River, crossing recent landslide areas. It involves climbing over rocks and bluff, before reaching the Mahoma River in 2h30. After crossing the river there will be a steep climbing through open bracken fern slopes and Podorcarpus Forest up to Nyabitaba hut (2652 m). The Nyabitaba hut is set on a ridge above the confluence of the Bujuku and Mubuku rivers with views over the Portal Peaks which rise above 4,627 m. While trekking you will keenly be able to see the chameleons (Rwenzori three-horned chameleons), butterflies, snakes, amphibians and other primate species like black and white colobus monkeys, Angola colobus. There are also unique birds which include Olive Pigeon, Rwenzori Touraco, White necked Raven and the handsome Francolin.

Activity: Hiking to Nyabitaba Hut, bird watching, reptile searching and other small primates.

Camping accommodation : Nyabitaba Hut.

Day 5: Nyabitaba - back to Nyakalengija – Overnight at the campsite.

After breakfast, you will go once again searching for chameleons and other reptiles as we descend back to Nyakalengija. Overnight will be foreseen at Nyakalegija Campsite.

Activity: Bird watching and other small primates, natures walk

Camping accommodation : Nyakalengija Campsite.

Day 6– Nyakalegija – Transfer to Mweya – Queen Elizabeth NP.

After Breakfast, you will be transfered to Mweya - Queen Elizabeth NP via Kabatoro gate. On your way to Mweya, you will make a stop over at the Equator and the Conservation through Public Health (CTPH) telecentre. In the evening, you go for the game drive. Overnight and dinner is foreseen at Mweya campsite.

Activity: Road transfer, visiting the Equator and CTPH.

Camping accommodation : Mweya campsite.

Lodge accommodation : Mweya safari Lodge.

Day 7 : Game drives and boat trip on Kazinga Channel.

After breakfast, you will go for a game drive and visit schools in Kasenyi. You will return to the camp for lunch. After lunch, in the afternoon you will take the launch trip on the Kazinga channel which takes 2 hours.

The Kazinga channel is a natural channel of 36 km long between Lake George and Lake Edward. The launch trip is the most popular activity at Mweya. From the safe boat you can see elephants, hippo, Nile crocodiles on the banks of the channel, monitor lizards and many water birds like African skimmers, African fish eagles, cormorants, saddle-billed storks, pelicans, etc.

Activity: Game drive and Boat trip on Kazinga Channel.

Camping accommodation : Mweya campsite.

Lodge accommodation : Mweya safari Lodge.

Day 8 : Game drive and visit Maramagambo Forest.

After breakfast, you will go for another short game drive, this time to concetrate more on animals that you missed on day 9. After a short game drive you will be transfered to Maramagambo Forest. You will have a picnic lunch on route. While in Maramagambo, you will do Forest walk, bat cave visit (bring a torch with you) and hunter's caves (with a chance of viewing some primates, rock python, birds & other wild game animals). After a visit to Maramagambo forest, you will return to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Activity: Game viewing, Maramagambo forest walk.

Camping accommodation : Mweya Campsite.

Lodge accommodation : Mweya safari Lodge.

Day 9: Queen Elizabeth NP – Transfer to Kampala.

In the morning after breakfast, you will be transferred to Kampala. You have lunch in Mbarara. A brief stop over will made at the Equator in Masaka before you proceed to Kampala. An overnight will be foreseen at Nabinonya Beach Campsite or to the hotel.

Activities: Nature walk and Game viewing.

Camping Accommodation: Nabinonya Beach Campsite.

Lodge Accommodation: Sophie's Motel or Hotel Africana.

Day 10: Departure.

For flight departing in the morning, you will be transferred to Entebbe Airport for departure. However, if you plan to go with an evening flight, then you will do a Kampala city tour, Kasubi Tombs and the craft markets.

Activities: Kampala city visit, crafts markets, the cultural sites.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES INCLUDE; (to be paid for incase a client is interested):

This safari can be extended to include;

 Gorilla trekking in Bwindi National park.

 Visit to Sesse Island on Lake Victoria.

 Lake Mburo National park.

Important Points to note:

- We always advise our clients to bring soft or leather bags for easy transfers.

- Minimum age for gorilla trekking is 15 years old.

- We advise you to carry enough money (€ 400) to meet your personal expenses while here on safari.

- Tips are always given as a way of appreciating for the service provided. It is always given to the tour leader who shares it to the team.

- This safari can be extended to Rwanda for further experiences in a different environment especially gorilla trekking and cultural setting of Rwandese Communities.
